Soneva Jani is the resort Soneva built to show what overwater living could actually be. Set in the Noonu Atoll lagoon, it spans a private island and more than fifty villas — some on the water with slides into the lagoon and retractable bedroom roofs for stargazing, others set in beachfront or garden settings on the island itself. The scale is substantial, but the philosophy keeps it from feeling like a large resort: no shoes anywhere, no news, no sense of hurry.
Dining runs to eleven venues. The Crab Shack serves MSC-certified crab and seafood over the water; Overseas brings a seasonal menu from Swedish chef Mathias Dahlgren; So Fresh handles raw and plant-based cooking. A six-metre wine tower stocks roughly 50% organic and biodynamic labels. There is a chocolate room, and an ice cream parlour with sixty-plus rotating flavours.

The dry season runs from December to April and is generally considered the best time — calmer seas, clearer skies, and underwater visibility that can exceed 30 metres on the dive sites. This is also peak season, so villas book out well in advance. The wet season from May to November brings occasional rain and slightly rougher conditions, but the lagoon is swimmable year-round and rates are meaningfully lower. One upside of the shoulder months: storm-cleared nights can make for exceptional stargazing at the resort's observatory.
